The Bounty
In
1787 the three - masted Bounty commanded by captain Bligh rounded cape
horn on the way to Tahiti where she was to take on a cargo of bread-fruit
trees for India.
After a voyage of 10 months they reached the island but
had to wait until the cargo was ready.
The crew had no choice but to enjoy
them selves, and history recounts that they indeed did so.
The order to
load the cargo and go aboard was not accepted with great enthusiasm by
the crew and they departed very unhappily.
It was during the return voyage
that the famous mutiny took place. Captain Bligh together with some of
the crew were cast adrift in an open boat with a little food and the ships
log.
